Sharon Stone: karma cow tows

Buddhist convert Sharon Stone gets reincarnated as a moron as she declares that the Chinese earthquake which killed at least 68,000 people was "Karma" for not being "nice". So tens of thousands of innocent human beings died as some sort of punishment over Tibet? If this is what passes for cosmic justice in Sharon's worldview, she can stuff it.

Same goes for all the luvvies whose chief concern is their own spiritual wellbeing while not giving a toss for the 95 per cent of the Tibetan population who were slaves and serfs, owned body and soul by the political elite, including the Dalai Lama's own mother, who, touchingly, the sweet boy still reveres.

I'm reminded of the 1980s Buddhists who used to chant for Porsches and insist that the starving in Africa must have done something in a previous life to deserve their present fate . "Even the kids, the babies?" I used to ask. "Yes, especially the babies as they have more to learn."

There've been quite a few of these comments about "karma" popping up in the blogosphere from Dolly sympathisers. Nice! I hope the Dalai does himself a favour and distances himself from the barbarism on display from his disciples.

BTW, I wonder if it's karma that's led to Sharon being dropped by Dior and China banning her films. There are more things in heaven and earth ...

Doctors sign a Hippocratic oath before practicing medicine.

Celebrities should have to sign a 'Shut the Fuck Up About Politics Oath' before they start practicing their art.

Well, as Shazza should know, what goes around comes around. Oh, and that other flipping luvvie, Richard Gere...He so pisses me off..

I kinda agree with Oliver, they really should have sumat written in their contracts, called "Shut the Fuck Up..."

Sharon Stone was quite correct about the earthquake being caused by China's bad karma as a nation. Burma also has plenty has plenty of bad karma.

Dave,

what did you do in a past life to come back as a numpty in this? (Numpty was me being polite, btw. I don't want to come back as a 'Dave' in my next life.)

Dave, maybe the Dalai Lama losing his privileges is karma for being the leader of a serf and slave-owning theocracy. Not that personally receiving $1.7 million from the US government is that much of a punishment.

Your link re karma and China: "Not only is the justice system harsh with ordinary criminals put to death for relatively small offences..."

Whereas feudal Tibet only had flayings, eye-gouging and amputations used as punishment and control over the 95 per cent of the population who were owned by DL's fellow elite.

"... Since most of the Chinese population appears to be supporting this oppression of minorities (though they may not know all the facts), it seems appropriate that ordinary people be affected by this natural disaster, perhaps it will help soften their attitude to Tibet and other minorities."

Blackmailing bunch of sad sickos.

Louise and Oliver, as an actor, I hope no-one expects me to "shut the fuck up." :-)

What a daft woman.

Actually, have we heard anything from the Hollywood Dollyphiles about devoutly Buddhist Burma? It seems to have slipped under the radar.

Great photo though - I think you should run a caption competition!

If the guide translation is correct, Mod, (and as Norman Mailer said, nuance is everything) then that is indeed half-witted. But at least it shows they are on a steep learning curve. And you do point out that Deng Xiaoping's son has led the advance in this area.

The Chinese would probably have a thing or two to teach us about old people and children, though.

ModernityBlog said...

always some excuse or other isn't there?

no matter what the Chinese ruling class does, there would be some deflection, some mitigation, some glib comment, which didn't take the subject seriously, or the immense offence that it caused?

but should some half-witted actress with a vague attachment to the Dalai llama make a stupid and utterly insensitive remark, then whoosh, down on her like a ton of bricks?

and you can't see the anomaly?

Still let's not talk about the Tibetans, the real people suffering under brutal Chinese rule? Let's make a joke of it?**

** that's sarcasm

Madam Miaow said...

The guide, as it reads, is clearly wrong. What's glib in that?

There's loads of stuff the Chinese have to sort out. But, Mod, I'd rather be a Tibetan in Tibet than a Palestinian in your favourite region.

ModernityBlog said...

whenever the topic of Tibet comes up there is always some glib or snidey comment about the Dalai Lama, which nicely sidesteps the need to understand and appreciate the extent of the brutal Chinese rule in Tibet

concentrating on the Dalai Lama is a simple way of avoiding the issue of the Chinese conquest of Tibet, the rape of raw materials and the colonisation

the worst thing that could happen is for the Dalai Lama to die, because then there wouldn't be any way to smear, laugh at or joke about Tibetans living under foreign occupation

no more Sharon Stone jokes, no more tosh about the re-imposition of feudalism, etc

Madam Miaow said...

You can wag your little finger all you like, Mod, having located your inner district organiser. I'd have preferred a debate.

A Hollywood celeb made a stupidly cruel comment that's typical of many all over the net in the wake of the earthquake. That is something that should be challenged.

Whatever you think of the Chinese government, I'd have expected you as a socialist to agree that the superstitious assertion that tens of thousands of innocent Chinese got their just desserts is unacceptable.

Louisefeminista said...

So, Modernity we are not allowed to criticise the Dalai Lama now, only the Chinese government?

"no more Sharon Stone jokes, no more tosh about the re-imposition of feudalism, etc"

More Sharon jokes please and why is it tosh to discuss feudalism..?

Sometimes, you know, the fact you bleat about Tibet yet have an political blind spot when it comes to Palestine.

ModernityBlog said...

Louise,

haven't we been through this before?

as a Marxist could you give me one or two instances of the re-imposition of feudalism in the past, say 100 years??

surely they must roll off the tongue?? no asking Newman.

direct question:

do you think that Tibetans are deserving of national self-determination, eventually?

and if not, why not, in your own words

PS: I'm more than happy to discuss at length my views on Palestine, but please don't assume you know what they are, unless I've explained them?

just say so and I'll open a thread on my blog :)

Madam Miaow said...

Mod: "haven't we been through this before?"

Precisely.

Can we stay on topic, please? Evil Chinese government ways is last on the left, through the bog, up the one-way street, and into the cul-de-sac on the other thread.

ModernityBlog said...

on topic you say?

I agree with your statement:

"while not giving a toss for the 95 per cent of the Tibetan population who were slaves and serfs, owned body and soul by the political elite,"

the problem is that is true nowadays, the Tibetans lives are controlled by an imposed elite, directed by the Party Secretary on behalf on dodgy old men in Beijing

so what's different?

socialists shouldn't be making excuses for EITHER ruling class (the CCP or the Dalai Lama) or haven't the lessons of the past 60 years been learnt?

PS: Louise, I have started an open thread on Tibet and the Middle East, so if you are up to substantiating your arguments against me then please do comment :)
